I hate when people say “A woman’s body was designed to give birth.”
No, giving birth is just something a woman’s body can do.
If we follow that logic, then because a man’s body can reach sexual climax via anal penetration, all men were designed for gay sex.
Needless to say, like gay sex, childbirth is just not some people’s cup of tea.

an evening of reading the most awful misogynistic articles on dumb islamic websites has lead me to this:

i’ve always kind of wanted to do a webcomic starring a badass muslim superhero who defends women against the kind of stupid idiocy we have to put up with every day whilst shutting up all the white feminists who try to co-opt the struggle.

i actually sincerely want to develop this because do you REALIZE the potential behind a hijabi/niqabi superhero like her outfit comes with a ready-made abaya-cape and a mask so i’m really into it but yeah this is sort of a quick brain storming comic for the entire concept lemme know if you like it.

    image

I’d like to point out that the Muslim woman’s religion, just like just about every patriarchal religion in the world (and, possibly, every religion period), is the core system that promotes misogyny in the cultures around her in Muslim-dominated countries. Just like the biggest part of the misogyny of the US is Christian teachings (that are right there, in the Bible and the apocrypha surrounding Christian teachings) held close by religious people.

While I spend most of my time fighting to make atheism feminist, it’s important to occasionally point out that feminism should be (and historically is connected to being) atheist.

As an feminist ex-Muslim, imma need you to stop right here. Feminism has historically been in Islam since the beginning of its birth. Khadijah RA, Fatimah RA, Nana Asma’u, Tahirih were all female leaders in Islam. Since when has feminism been or should be atheist? A lot of Western philosophers that proclaimed atheism were very misogynistic. Even right now the new atheist movement is heavily misogynistic. In my personal experience, new atheists have been more misogynistic to me than Muslims.

The history of feminism does not start from the first wave in the 1920’s.

Feminism is not supposed to be just atheist, because feminism is about choice and not about lack of religion. Either way even if Islam is the core system that promotes misogyny (hint, it isn’t) feminism should not be barred from Islam. That would erase like the thousands upon thousands of Muslim feminists who readily want to change the Ummah and fix the Muslim community, not Islam itself. Muslim countries do not have misogyny bc of Islam, they have misogyny because men want to oppress women and use religion to do so.

The fact that Islam is used and abused and twisted to shape the patriarchy needs to be pointed out. You’re doing exactly the same thing that this comic wants to prevent. I used to think that way too, but then I was called out by Muslim women. If Muslim women themselves state that no, misogyny does not come from their religion, I don’t see how an outsider can refute that using the little information they have. Same thing for Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism etc. If you want to try to make feminism atheist, by all means try for it, but Muslim women will be alienated even more from feminism.

so tired of other girls / women dismissing the existence of other women simply by not mentioning their names, as if these women didn’t have a name, a voice, or their own existence. it’s just so fuckin wrong and stupid.
